Pre-operation

Week Before Top Surgery

  • Go to bed early. This will set your body up for success.
    • It might also be a challenge getting good rest after your top surgery. Your body needs to acclimate sleeping on your back for the next few weeks.
  • Gather all the supplies you will need during recovery from the Post-op Essentials Checklist. The recovery checklist is thorough and will require adequate time to collect.
  • Get any required testing completed.
    • Blood Test/Health Screenings
    • Chest X-ray (if needed)
  • Focus on tying up loose ends at work.
    • Your boss might be the only one aware of the actual nature of your surgery, but you should let co-workers know you will need their support through your medical leave.
  • Check-in with your recovery advocate on the arrival times, estimated surgery duration, and any additional concerns you have leading up until your surgery.
  • If you have dogs, you will need someone to walk them.
    • This is a great way for any friends or family to support you.
    • Set up a schedule for at least the first week and a half of walks after surgery.
  • Pick up your medication from the pharmacy.

Night Before Top Surgery

  • Follow your surgeon’s instructions before surgery which can include:
    • Eating a good dinner then fasting after their outlined time
    • Shower with antibacterial soap
    • Getting a good night’s sleep
  • Check-in with your anesthesiologist (if necessary)
    • Discuss any previous experiences with general anesthesia
    • Ask for nausea medication, if needed

Day of Top Surgery

  • Any before pictures will be taken.
  • Plastic surgeon will come into the room to:
    • Answer any last-minute questions
